With Brexit looming and the need to upsize from a small two bedroom flat, Kasia Szawlis with her husband Welly and their two young children Mia and Masimba, were keen to be settled into a new home.
“Our daughter is eight and our son is nearly five and the flat we were living in was just becoming far too small for our needs,” explains Kasia. “The flat was a typical first-time buyer or investor flat and we felt that these two groups of buyers would potentially want to wait until after Brexit to see how the market would react. However, we didn’t want to wait that long so put our home up for sale early in the summer holidays but by October, when we still didn’t have an offer, we did start to panic.”
The couple were keen to stay within Chelmsford so started to look at properties that could offer them at least three bedrooms with a garden. “I work as a paralegal in a law firm and although I currently work in Chelmsford, I do go to my firm’s other offices in London and Norwich, so it was important to me to have good travel connections close by,” adds Kasia. “Our flat was a new build and I particularly wanted a house that was energy efficient, easy to keep clean and be low maintenance. With older properties you can also get nasty surprises when you move in such as mould in the bathroom, so we were keen to avoid any expensive problems.”
The family looked at a couple of places but when they saw Parva Green in Chelmsford by local developer Higgins Homes, they felt immediately that it had all the elements they were looking for. “The quality of the internal specification and external design of the homes was very evident,” explains Kasia. “The attention to detail throughout really makes all the difference and the finish within each room is excellent. Two of the bedrooms come with huge built-in wardrobes so half your furniture is there for you already and I particularly love the kitchen with its stone worktops, which are so easy to keep clean.”
With no buyer for their flat, Higgins Homes stepped in to offer the family part-exchange as Welly explains: “We jumped at the offer and really felt that it took a lot of stress out of the whole moving process. Throughout, Higgins Homes were very easy to deal with. They were patient, helpful and guided us through the process by sending us gentle reminders when something needed doing. They kept the communication going between ourselves and our solicitors the whole time and were really on the ball which made for a much smoother transaction.”
Parva Green is situated in Broomfield Village just outside Chelmsford and has been designed to blend into the existing architecture. There are 27 two-, three- and four-bedroom houses and three one-bedroom apartments within an established residential area. Each house has a private rear garden.
“Living here will change our lives in many ways,” adds Welly. “The house is on the corner and has an unusual shape giving it a unique character. There are almost two wings to it and you can access the garden from the living room and the kitchen/diner giving the home a light and airy feel. In the summer we will throw the doors open so the garden will feel like an extra room and become a real extension of the house.”
Kasia adds: “My son loves being in the garden and I can just imagine in the summer we won’t need to go anywhere because we have everything we need at home. There’s no boundary between the house and garden and I can’t wait to sit back and relax with a coffee in hand and enjoy some sunshine.”
If the family do want to enjoy their surroundings, they can visit St Andrew’s Park locally or enjoy having a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants in Broomfield. There are lots of shopping options and fun family things to do in nearby Chelmsford and for work or pleasure, they can also take a train from Chelmsford into Liverpool Street, which takes around 30 minutes to reach the Capital.
Prices at Parva Green range from £459,500 to £585,000. For more information contact the sales office on 020 8023 9313 or email parvagreen@higginshomes.co.uk
